A New Zealand anti-whaling activist has been handed over to Japan for possible trial.
A New Zealand anti-whaling activist has been handed over to Japan for possible trial.

Japanese prosecutors are believed to be holding Peter Bethune, who was handed over to them by the Japanese coastguard after being detained by whalers in the area.

44-year-old Bethune could face up to three years in jail if he is charged and convicted over the secret boarding of a Japanese whaling ship in the Antarctic in February.

Bethune is the captain of the expensive powerboat the Ady Gil, which was destroyed in a confrontation with the Shonan Maru 2 in January.

He later boarded the Japanese whaling ship to try to confront the captain but was apprehended.

New Zealand anti-whaler arrested by Japanese

The whales are nearlytinct and the Japenese still kill them for whatever foolish reasons....wake up people. This guy is a hero, his country- all intelligent countries- should do whatever it takes to rescue him & lay charges against the whalers. Seems that Japenese consider their own immediate gratifications more important than keeping a species, especially as magnificent as the whales they butcher, from extinction..... Greedy S.O.B.s

Boycott all things Japanese....

What is it with these Asian people, first- they figure that parts of various animals will make them virile (like seal penises) that they can have anything they want without consequenses (like sushi from whale as a delicacy?) This guy is a hero, & his country should help him out. The Economic Union should also ban exports from Japan as a protest to their uncivilized killing of whales & dolphins to fill their fat faces.

protests

as far as i’m concerned you can have your pet projects as to what you support and thats fine with me but when you start to interfere with the lives of sailors or crew then it takes a new perspective and these protesters should have the book thrown at them and their vessels confiscated and their credintials as captains and officers be withdrawn from them if they are going to endanger the lives of sailors or crew then i agree that they should even be sunk.

True and Untrue

Hindu do worship the Honourable Cow and so to does the West but in a different way. Last time I checked there was no extinction warning for Cows a large source of green house gases!“Blue Haze” thinks animal rights are for the birds-huh! and advocates sinking the Sea-Shepards Boat! I counter that by having no respect for Whales or animals on this Earth the sailors are shown to be less than human or animals in value and thier ships should be sunk! But with no loss of life, only equipment, as workers have no say in a corporate World. Remember the Sea Shepards have used non-leathal means while the Whalers have used L-RADS on thier chopper and Shot at Paul ETC!
