ASEAN COCI set to review 2020 proposals in Palawan

QUEZON CITY, Aug. 20 (PIA) -- Delegations from member countries of ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information (ASEAN COCI) will gather this week (August 19-23)in Palawan to recommend and deliberate project proposals for 2020.

Created in October 1978, ASEAN COCI (composed of the Sub-Committee on Culture and the Sub-Committee on Information) promotes effective cooperation in the fields of culture and information for the purpose of enhancing mutual understanding and solidarity among the peoples of ASEAN as well as in furthering regional development.

For its part, Philippines will be proposing activities highlighting ASEAN Integration benefits.

The meeting, to be held at the Princesa Garden Island Resort in Puerto Princesa City, will be presided by Communications and Operations Office Undersecretary George Apacible.

Expected to join Usec. Apacible are Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Ernesto C. Abella, National Commission for Culture and Arts Chairperson Virgilio Almario and representatives from the Cultural Center of the Philippines, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Philippine Information Agency, and People's Television Network.

To inspire the delegates, folk artist Bayang Barrios will be performing alongside Ang Naliyagan and the Palawan State University Sining Palawan Dance Troupe.

ASEAN COCI is behind the holding of the ASEAN Quiz (a friendly competition among high school students in ASEAN) and The Best of ASEAN Performing Arts (showcasing the cultural diversity of ASEAN Member States). (LP)
