BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Nov. 6 (PIA) - The provincial government here has called on various sectors in the province to support the signature campaign against mining activities in the province.
The campaign is led by the Nueva Vizcaya -Quirino Water Watch (NVQWW) which calls for the non-renewal of the Financial and Technical Assistance Agreement (FTAA) of OcenaGold Phils., Inc. (OGPI) and stoppage of all mining activities in the province.
"The voices of our people including the government sector are called upon to strongly support these synchronized signature campaigns to bring to the attention of concerned national government agencies that continue to play deaf ears on our appeal to immediately stop mining here and in Quirino province," said Provincial Administrator Maybelle Blossom Dumlao-Sevillena .
She said the signature campaign will be a manifestation of Novo Vizcayanos' deep sense of responsibility to protect the province from all forms of development aggression especially on mining.
OGPI's operations in barangay Didipio in Kasibu town has been halted due to legal battle between the mining firm and the provincial government before the Court of Appeals.
With the uncertain action on the FTAA and its halted operations, OGPI officials said the company has suffered huge production loses.# (MDCT/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
