LJUBLJANA, Slovenia, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Italian duo Andrea Abbiati and Tiziano Andreatta, and Danish pair Clara Windeleff and Line Trans Hanse took the spoils at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Ljubljana 1-Star event here on Sunday.
This event is the first international competition to take place after the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour was forced to take a four-month break by the COVID-19 outbreak.
The mens' finals saw the Italian pair defeat Austria's Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst 2-1 (21-18, 15-21, 15-11) to win their first World Tour gold medal.
The bronze medal was taken by fellow Austrians Alexander Huber and Christoph Dressler, thanks to a 2-1 (22-24, 21-10, 15-8) win in the small finals against Slovenia's home hopes Vid Jakopin and Tadej Bozenk.
"We did not expect this victory since it is the first tournament after a long break," said Andreatta, whose teammate Abbiati was named the men's MVP.
Windeleff and Trans Hansen thrashed their Danish compatriots Cecilie Olsen and Sofia Bisgaard 2-0 (21-11, 21-10) in the womens' finals. In the bronze medal match, Belgium's Sarah Cools and Lisa Van Den Vonder knocked out Anete Namike and Varvara Brailko from Latvia 2-0 (21-14, 21-19).
"We played aggressively and committed fewer mistakes. Our focus was on winning each point, we gave 200 percent and we are so happy with the outcome," said Trans Hansen, who also won the women's MVP title.
