Capitals re-sign three to two-way contracts

The Washington Capitals re-signed forwards Garrett Pilon and Michael Sgarbossa along with defenseman Bobby Nardella on Thursday, all to two-year, $1.5 million contracts.

For Pilon and Nardella, the first year of the deal will be a two-way contract ($750,000 NHL and $110,000 AHL) and the second year will be a one-way $750,000 contract.

Under his contract, Sgarbossa will earn $750,000 NHL and $425,000 AHL in 2021-22, with the AHL salary rising to $500,000 in 2022-23.

The Capitals' third-round pick in 2016, the 23-year-old Pilon made his NHL debut on May 8, 2021 against the Philadelphia Flyers.

He registered 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) in 14 games with the AHL's Hershey Bears this season. Pilon has 85 points (32 goals, 53 assists) in 146 career games with Hershey.

Nardella, 25, signed with the Capitals as a free agent out of Notre Dame on April 5, 2019. He has yet to play in an NHL game.

He spent the 2020-21 season at Djurgardens IF in the Swedish Hockey League and posted 33 points (seven goals, 26 assists) in 47 games.

Sgarbossa, 28, played in five games with Washington during the 2020-21 season, posting two assists. The previous year, he appeared in two games with the Capitals, including his NHL debut on Nov. 20, 2019.

He had 10 points (five goals, five assists) in 14 games with Hershey in 2020-21.
