Owen "smooya" Butterfield joined Fnatic's Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team on a three-month trial.

The 22-year-old British AWPer's contract with Movistar Riders expired Friday morning. He stood in for Fnatic last weekend at the IEM Winter Europe open qualifier.

"We're excited to welcome back @smooyacs to our AWP position for a 3 month trial with extension rights," the team posted Friday on Twitter. "We'd like to once again thank @Movistar_Riders for allowing this to happen. Welcome back to the Black and Orange family, Owen!"

smooya replaces Jack "Jackinho" Strom Mattson, who was moved to the bench last week.

His arrival gives the United Kingdom-based Fnatic a British-majority lineup for the first time, as smooya joins countrymen Alex "ALEX" McMeekin and William "mezii" Merriman alongside the Swedish duo Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson and Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin.

"For those who enjoyed the British Fnatic flag, you're about to be really excited for a LONG time," smooya said in a Twitlonger post. "This is a situation that I never thought I would see myself in because of my past mistakes throughout my career but all I can say is thank you to Samuelsson for believing in me so much by putting his own reputation on the line to secure this move.

"I've been waiting for a chance like this for years and I think now is the perfect time for this to happen."
